Film Screening followed with Q&A by the Director: Children in the Fire
Join us on January 17 in Carlsbad City Library for a special screening of Children in the Fire, a powerful and deeply human documentary from Academy Award – nominated director Evgeny Afineevsky (Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom).
Since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has systematically targeted the country’s future by targeting its children – through abductions, forced adoptions, captivity, and violent attacks on civilian life.
Blending live-action footage with striking animation from Ukrainian artists, the film follows eight resilient children – athletes, performers, and future public servants – as they pursue their dreams across international borders while carrying the weight of war. Their journeys form a collective war diary: unflinching in its truth, yet filled with courage, dignity, and hope.
Children in the Fire is more than a documentary – it is a testament to the strength of children who have witnessed the worst of humanity and still embody the promise of a peaceful, nonviolent future. This screening is an opportunity to bear witness, to learn, and to stand in solidarity with Ukraine’s children. Many of your questions about this war or ongoing peace negotiations will be answered.
This film screening is hosted by the House of Ukraine and Shield of Freedom.
Help Us Finish the Mission — An Ambulance for Ukraine
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Giving Tuesday brought us nearly $9,000 toward our goal of delivering a fully equipped ambulance to a frontline medical team in Ukraine. Now, with just $11,000 left to raise, we are within reach of making this lifesaving project a reality before year’s end.
This ambulance will serve as a mobile lifeline—allowing medics to stabilize the wounded and evacuate them from the frontlines to safety. In a war where every minute can mean the difference between life and death, reliable medical transport saves lives, preserves limbs, and gives the injured a fighting chance to survive.
We are committed to purchasing and delivering this ambulance directly to the 32nd brigade’s medical team who recently lost their medical vehicle. Without vehicles like this, soldiers and civilians alike risk dying from injuries that are entirely treatable if help can arrive in time.
As we close out the year, we invite you to help us finish what we started. Your year-end gift—of any size—brings us closer to putting this ambulance on the road and into service of the 32nd brigade where it will save lives immediately.
Please give today and help us turn Wheels of Hope into action.
Sunday Jan 4th
Balboa Park @ El Cid Statue

Since mid-January 2022, supporters of Ukraine have gathered every weekend at Balboa Park for rallies, calling on the world to Stand With Ukraine against russian aggression. After the full-scale invasion began, we made a promise — to ourselves and our community — to continue gathering every weekend until Ukraine is once again free and peaceful.
This Ukrainian Awareness Rally is not only about raising awareness that the war is still ongoing, but also about honoring the bravery and resilience of those who have sacrificed everything for Ukraine’s freedom. It is a celebration of the unyielding spirit of its people.
russia’s war on Ukraine remains the largest war in Europe since World War II — a war marked by genocide, countless war crimes, and the systematic destruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure. Millions have been displaced, and Ukraine now remains resilient in the reality of scheduled blackouts as its energy systems are relentlessly targeted.
Our weekly rally is a call to action — a reminder that the fight for Ukraine’s freedom continues. Join us in standing together, believing in Ukraine, and keeping its struggle in the global spotlight.
Together, we stand. Together, we resist. Together, we prevail.
Together to VICTORY!

Stand with Ukraine: Join Our Peaceful Rally for Justice and Security
This rally is a critical reminder that Putin’s regime continues its genocidal war against Ukraine, and America must not turn its back on Ukraine. We must remind the public that Putin started this war and is responsible for every war crime committed in Ukraine since 2014.
Our message must be loud and clear:
🇺🇦 Ukrainian flags must be seen everywhere.
🇺🇦 The U.S. cannot abandon Ukraine—American national security depends on it.
🇺🇦 Ukraine deserves a just peace with real security guarantees to prevent Putin from using a ceasefire to rebuild and attack again.
Why This Rally Matters
With misinformation spreading—even among some government officials—many Americans are unaware of the true stakes of this war or are losing interest. It is our responsibility to ensure they understand the urgency and severity of the situation. We must counter misinformation with truth, mobilize public support, and demand action.
Call to Action: Make Your Voice Heard
The most powerful action people can take is to call their representatives in Congress and demand:
📢 Continued military and financial aid for Ukraine
📢 Increased pressure on the Administration to tell the truth about the war
📢 Stronger sanctions on Russia to weaken Putin’s war machine
Why Your Support Is Critical
This rally is not just about raising awareness—it’s about making a real impact. By standing together, we send a powerful message: Ukraine must win, Putin’s terror must end, and the U.S. must stay committed to defending freedom and global security.
Join us. Be a voice for justice. Be a force for action. Together, we can ensure that Ukraine is not forgotten, and Putin is not allowed to rebuild and strike again.
